Sculptural and shiny was the direction from Philip Barwick for the Hong Kong Style event at MBFWA.

“We needed a simple but modern elegance, a fresh take on the up style for todays girl”, Philip said.

The glossy twists will be the perfect day or night party style in our warmer months.

Muse at MBFWA for Watson x Watson with Redken

The inspiration for the Watson x Watson parade was to give the feeling the girls had been at an all night bush rave.

“She’s making her way across fields as the sun rises and the morning mist is settling upon the hair. The curl is gently falling leaving no volume through the dampened top”,Said hair director Philip Barwick.

The hair shows two distinct textures, both shiny but moving from almost wet at the top to a progressively drier feel throughout mid lengths and ends.

“This duel texture will be seriously on trend this coming summer”, Added Philip.

Tadashi Shoji

This year in New York was a wonderful experience as always. I was totally in my element as we began the hair preparation for our first show of the week,.The hair combined two Herring bone braids moving backward from a side parted front and crossed over a loosely waved back section, complimenting Tadashi’s bold striped dresses and soft gowns.


Juyoung

I then moved on to Juyoung to work on the men’s collection, the guys had hair that was varying from very long to really short so a finger raked texture was the element used to create a story


Graeme Amour

At Graeme Amour we created Sculptural Pony tails to compliment the youthful, progressive lines of the garments using Redken Hard Wear 16 styling gel on damp hair. When viewed from the front the design looked almost boyish sweeping up and slightly across with no visible part.


Vivienne Tam

The hair design for was an organic messy bun with loose accents around the ears and a low swept fringe. To create this look for Vivienne Tam we used Redken Full Frame 07 to achieve the texture then finished with Redken Fashion Work 12 giving a flexible and re-workable hold.


Pink Tartan

Pink Tartan took inspiration from the late 1960′s to early 70′s so profile wise the hair needed to be low volume at the front of the head and full toward the crown complimenting the clothing beautifully. The model pictured is Crystal from Australia and this was her first New York Fashion Week.

Expect the Unexpected

Expect the unexpected is something one of my mentors once said to me…and Malaysia certainly delivered. As a guest artist for the Cut Above Academy (owned by Winnie Loo) I had the privilege of teaching my collection called Multiplicity over two days.

The collection was based around the idea that a single technique could deliver multiple looks for the salon guest. we drew inspiration from textured fabric and fur….creating flares of colour in the hair. I had my work cut out for me with almost every model needing to be pre lightened due to colour build up.

But I had an amazing team with me from Cut Above and the fabulous Rachel Hyde from Muse team as well. Without them I would still be there colouring:We had amazing feed back from the course and great participants, some of whom had travelled from mainland China and Indonesia and even a couple from Dubi.
